Why You Need a Website

Today, events and businesses need an online presence as much as they need a phone or mailbox. Participants and customers — current and potential — expect you to have one. While brochures were once the only way to inform participants about an event or business, the most effective and least expensive promotional tool to use these days is a website! In fact, many events — large and small — use a website as their primary marketing tool

Additionally, most people begin their search for an event or business online using a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo. This has caused websites to virtually become a requirement for doing business in any industry. Having one is priceless, as it will not only help you attract new participants or clients, but also retain your existing customers. However, if you don’t have a website people will not be able to find your product, and you will not be fulfilling the expectations of your existing clients. This means you will lose customers and thus lose revenue!

Requirements for Publishing a Website

There are three basic requirements to publish a site to the web:

  1. A domain name, also called a URL or web-address, is necessary to enable a user’s computer to find your website. For example, the domain name of this website is Websitesbygriffin.com
  2. A place to store the website files. This place will need to be on a computer that other computers can access. I provide this space with my web hosting service.
  3. The website files. This includes the site’s content, as well as the programming code that tells a user’s web browser how to display the site. See my packages page for more info on my design services and other options.
