Content Management System

What is a Content Management System?

A content management system, or CMS for short, is software that keeps track of all the content on your Web site. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage, which allows even novices to update, edit and create new pages on their website. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don’t have to!

  • Does your event or business rely on regular web site changes?
  • Do your web site contributors lack sufficient knowledge in HTML?
  • Do you want to be able to create photo galleries and contact forms with ease?
  • Do you need to editorially review each new page before publication?
  • Does your web site contain a large number of pages and corresponding level of difficulty in keeping track of all of them?

If your event or business can relate to any of the above scenarios, using a CMS will save you a lot of time, hassle and money in the long run. Ultimately, a CMS is meant to make life easier for you. This is why many of my web packages include WordPress, an award-winning content management system, which can be customized to meet your needs.

WordPress

WordPress Logo WordPress is better than any other software of its kind. You can rest assured that with WordPress you will be on the cutting edge of the technology available. The following is a list of some of the features that come standard with WordPress. However, there are literally hundreds of plugins that extend what WordPress does, so the actual functionality is nearly limitless!

Key Features

  • Full standards compliance — every bit of WordPress generated code is in full compliance with the standards of the W3C. This is important not only for interoperability with today’s browser but also for forward compatibility with the tools of the next generation. Your web site is a beautiful thing, and you should demand nothing less.
  • No rebuilding — Changes you make to your templates or entries are reflected immediately on your site, with no need for regenerating static pages.
  • Password Protected Pages — You can give passwords to individual pages to hide them from the public. You can also have private pages which are viewable only by their author.
  • Workflow — You can have types of users that can only post drafts, not publish to the front page.
  • Multiple authors — WordPress’ highly advanced user system allows up to 10 levels of users, with different levels having different (and configurable) privileges with regard to publishing, editing, options, and other users.

WordPress Plugins

Although there are thousands of plugins available, the following plugins are the best of the best. These will enable you to post contact forms, Google Maps, and photo galleries on your website, as well as help improve your search engine rankings and social media presence.

Each plugin includes installation and configuration, and for your convenience, I’ve included many of them in my web packages – at no extra charge! Please visit the Packages page for more details.
